What it does
The curved sole and blade wrap around a rod, so each pass makes it rounder.
Hardened manganese steel, rated HRC 56 to 64, that can be resharpened.
Side screws set the projection and level the edge. A center knob locks it.
Turning a square stick into a round one by hand takes a tool that follows a curve. Hold this spokeshave by its two beech handles and push or pull along the grain. The concave blade takes a shaving from the high spots first. After a few passes the facets blend into a cylinder. Set the cut on scrap before you touch the real piece.
Limits
Do not try it on a flat board. The hollow sole would dig two tracks. It also has one radius, so it suits stock near that curve and rides poorly on thick posts. For chamfers and flat edges, our chamfer plane is the right tool.

This RUITOOL Concave Spokeshave is a nice tool to have in the shop. This is my first spokeshave, so I can only offer my opinion from a beginner's point of view, but so far I'm impressed.I really like how it feels in my hands. It's comfortable and ergonomic, and I found it very easy to use. The blade was extremely sharp right out of the box. I only tested it on 1x material, but based on how easily it cut through that, I'm confident it would handle hardwood without a problem.Adjusting the depth of cut was also simple, which I appreciated as someone who hasn't used a spokeshave before.Overall, I think this is a good value for the money and a great beginner-friendly tool. If you're looking to add a spokeshave to your shop without spending a lot, this is a solid option.
I am restoring a civil war era cannon, one of the wheels is shot, pun not intended, and I need to replacate several of the spokes. I have a very old concave warrented steel spokeshave that works great but has a smaller throat. This one was on sale so I thought I would give it a shot vs paying $200.00 for a Clifton or Veritas. It like most all irons no matter what you pay for them, needs to be sharpened, and it sharpened up smartly with 600, the 1000 and then 1200 grit sand paper on a jig . The cannon wheel is made of white oak and the iron handled it perferctly, and seems to be holding it's edge. The reason I gave it a 4 is that the adjustmen is loose, but not a big deal once figured out how to overcome the loose-ness of the adjustment mechanism.
