What it does
Both faces are ground, so you can mark left or right of the rule without switching knives.
The classic blade is hardened to at least 58 HRC and ground on a CNC machine.
Riveted hardwood scales with flat sides keep the knife from rolling off the bench.
A pencil line has width, and a knife line does not. Run this blade along a square and it cuts the surface fibers. A chisel then drops into the cut, and a saw starts beside it without tearing. The classic model has a 1.8 in blade and a leather sheath. The long-neck model has a thin 2.6 in blade that reaches between dovetail tails, and two grooves in the handle to place your fingers.
Limits
The two shapes suit different joints. For general layout on a bench, take the classic knife. For transferring tails to pins in narrow dovetails, take the long neck. If you want both, our boxed set holds one of each. A marking knife is a layout tool, and prying or carving hard with the tip will snap it.

This is my first marking knife, so I chose to go with this one because of the brand. I have purchased flush cut, and pull saws of the same brand. Based on the quality of the saws I've been using over the years, I was more comfortable with taking a chance with RUITOOL versus other brands within the same price point. I was more happy than impressed with the quality since it was my first marking knife. I will share that the overall fit and finish is on my quality scale would be 8/10. The blade is super sharp and seems to be of good quality high carbon steel. The handle is nicely shaped and finished, the wood species, I don't know. The sheath can certainly be improved, although its functional, I suggest a better designed sheath or case would be great. I would recommend the knife for first timers like myself and as a backup for those with more experience than myself with marking knives.
The tool has a lot of heft to it and is not the most ideal for marking your projects - it is a little unwieldy. However, it did come well finished and sharp from the factory and marks just fine. Included is a heavy plastic guard that goes over the cutting section, and a leather tip sheath. The sheath does not actually snap closed on the cutting tip, however - it is too small. Overall, it is an acceptable, if not ideal marking tool.
The marking knife itself looks pretty solid and has a smooth finish on the handle. It's full tang, so I expect it to hold up well to my use. I can't comment on how hard or durable the edge is - but pretty sharp right out of the box. As others mentioned - the sheath is pretty much garbage. I got a nice little poke trying to use it the first time. Doesn't even look like the stitching goes through the leather. I threw mine away. It comes with a small plastic cover that I plan to keep.
This product presents itself as being of good quality, a proper size for my hand to use appropriately, and a reasonable value for the money. I wasn't interested in the cheapest option I wanted one that was of good quality and would be durable for long term use.
